WASHINGTON — About 100,000 antiwar protesters from around the country converged Saturday on the National Mall, galvanized by opposition to President Bush’s plan to increase the number of troops in Iraq.
Protests attended by several thousand people also were held in Los Angeles, San Francisco and other cities. But the demonstration in the nation’s capital was among the biggest since the war began.

Freedom Park in Charlotte, NC will buzz with speeches and music this Saturday starting at 1 PM. The goal of all the music and speeches is nothing less than the permanent removal of George Bush and Dick Cheney.
Offering speakers from across the Carolinas and the nation, the rally will call for the impeachment of the President and Vice President based in part on the lies told the Congress and the American people by them in the lead up to the war on Iraq.
Musical acts cover the gamut from individual performers, like Michael Sharpe and Peter Moore to groups like Bellyfull and Hardcore Lounge. Sponsors of the event include the NC, Charlotte and York County (SC) chapters of the Green Party, local branches of Code Pink and NOW, and local activist groups like the Action Center for Justice and the Charlotte Coalition for Peace and Justice.

Independent candidate for Congress Peter White will join in the National Impeachment Vigil on September 1 that is being coordinated by the organizers of After Downing Street and Progressive Democrats of America.
White will lead a demonstration in front of Representative Delahunt’s office at 146 Main Street, Hyannis, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM that Friday, and he invites all peace and justice supporters to join him.
“We the People must demand that Representative Delahunt follow his oath of office to uphold the laws and Constitution of the United States by introducing Articles of Impeachment of Bush/Cheney immediately,” said White. “He is letting them continue the War for oil in Iraq that has killed and maimed tens of thousands of our troops, and hundreds of thousands of innocent people in Iraq. Delahunt has admitted that Bush/Cheney’s policies of torture and illegal wiretapping are grounds for impeachment, and yet he refuses to start impeachment proceedings because he says that would be bad for the Democratic Party!”

Impeachnet.net is calling on all supporters of freedom, civil rights, intelligence and peace to do something special for 24 hours beginning at noon eastern time on September 1. Simply replace the home page of your web site or blog with one image. A black background and white letters saying simply Impeach.Go here to find out more and get the html code.
What is the use, you ask? What will it accomplish? Nothing. Except for showing how much support is out there for removal of the criminal in the White House. Nothing, except perhaps getting whatever distracting celebrity news that will take away from the crimes of Bush on September 1 pushed back down the list of stories covered on the news as the conservative media finds themselves unable to ignore this real news when every reporter is faced with the word impeachment when he’s surfing the net looking for information on Scott Peterson’s wife’s bathroom habits.
It is designed solely to bring to the public consciousness the fact that the leader of our country has committed innumerable impeachable offenses, yet so far has faced less Congressional oversight for the real crimes committed while President than Bill Clinton faced for the crimes he never committed in the Whitewater affair before becoming President .
What a sad state of affairs that our GOP-controlled Congress has spent less than one one-hundredth the amount of money investigating the crimes of Pres. Bush than they did investigating a land deal in Arkansas. Still proud of your Congressman? Still want to send him or her back for another shot at destroying America?
Impeach.
Now.
All of them.

The President’s warrantless wiretapping program violates the Fourth Amendment prohibition against wiretapping Americans without a warrant, which must be obtained by showing a judge there is a valid reason for the search. Yet, instead of holding the president accountable, Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter has teamed up with the White House to draft S. 2453 (nicknamed the “Cheney-Specter bill”), which would legalize the illegal wiretapping program and any other current and future secret programs the administration wants to use to spy on Americans—without ever having to secure a single warrant.
If Specter’s Senate Judiciary Committee approves S. 2453 (as soon as this Thursday, July 20), it will head to the Senate for a floor vote. The bill would make the Fourth Amendment almost completely disappear. We must act now!
Read More at BORDC.com about why S. 2453 is bad for Americans.

“The British called impeachment ‘the most powerful weapon in the political armory, short of civil war,’” said Buzz Davis, a member of Veterans for Peace. “But I do not want civil war.”
Davis, along with David Schwartz, a UW law professor and member of the Center for Constitutional Rights, and Ben Manski, a fellow with the Liberty Tree Foundation, presented arguments for impeachment of President Bush to a crowd of nearly 120 people Wednesday at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The event was part of a national network of teach-ins organized by the center.
“Impeachment is the most patriotic thing we can do,” said Manski. “It’s a debate over executive power versus popular power. We are struggling over the soul of a nation.”
In a video, the Center for Constitutional Rights proposed four articles of impeachment: warrantless surveillance and wiretaps, using torture and denying due process to detainees at Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib, misleading Congress into the Iraq war, and violating the separation of powers.
Schwartz said impeachment would begin if the U.S. House of Representatives found the articles adequate reason to investigate the president.

(Editor’s Note: Today, July 19, 2006, marks the first National Impeachment Day sponsored by the Center for Constitutional Rights to raise awareness about impeachment, offer citizens a strategy to impeachment and organize to stop the assault on the American people and her constitutions.)

Happy Impeachment Day!
The Center for Constitutional Rights, which has been playing a leading role in battling the Bush administration’s attacks on the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and international law, has declared today to be Impeachment Day, with teach-ins scheduled around the country.
Seems like a great occasion to offer up 10 reasons for impeaching the president, as presented in Barbara Olshansky’s and my new book The Case for Impeachment: The Legal Argument for Removing President George W. Bush from Office.
The case for impeachment just grew much stronger, with the US Supreme Court’s powerful decision in Hamdan v Rumsfeld. In that decision, the justices didn’t simply say that the President was wrong and in violation of U.S. and the international law in arbitrarily claiming that the Guantanamo detainees were not subject to the Geneva Convention on Treatment of Prisoners of War. The five-justice majority, which included conservative Anthony Kennedy, declared the President’s bogus claim to have “special powers” as commander in chief in “time of war” to be just that–bogus.
What has been missed in almost all the mainstream media coverage of this important ruling is that this slap-down of Bush’s justification for his Guantanamo decision also undermines his justification for many other of his constitutional violations.

After the platform and the resolutions had been discussed and voted on, I asked to be recognized by the Chair, Jerry Meek. I had previously presented my resolution to the Vice-Chair, Delmas Parker, who is a friend of mine, so they had a copy of it at the podium. I presented this motion: “I move to suspend the rules to consider a resolution from the floor asking the NC legislature to file impeachment articles against George Bush.” This was voted on, and needed a 2/3rd majority to pass, which it did. Then I read the full resolution:
RESOLUTION ASKING NC LEGISLATORS TO FILE IMPEACHMENT ARTICLES
Whereas Section 603 of section LIII of Jefferson’s Rules of the US House rules for the 109th Congress permits the inception of impeachment proceedings by charges transmitted from the legislature of a state; and
Whereas George W. Bush, President of the United States, has so conducted himself and his administration as to cause the people of the State of North Carolina to doubt his integrity and to believe that his official actions as president are subject to corrupt influences; and
Whereas the North Carolina Democratic Party has passed a resolution calling for the impeachment of George W. Bush; and
Whereas the North Carolina State Executive Committee also voted for the impeachment of George W. Bush, Richard Cheney and Alberto Gonzales in January 2006; therefore,
Be it resolved that this North Carolina Democratic Party convention asks our Representatives in the State of North Carolina (the senate concurring) to petition the US House of Representatives to start investigations of George W. Bush and his administration to the end that George W. Bush may be impeached and removed from office, and in doing so to follow the example set by California Assemblyman Paul Koretz in his submission of impeachment resolutions; and
Be it further resolved that the Secretary of State for North Carolina give, and is hereby instructed to certify, to each Senator and Representative in the Congress of the United States, under the great seal of the State of North Carolina, a copy of this resolution and the prior impeachment resolution, and notification of its adoption by the Democratic Party of the State of North Carolina at their convention in June 2006.

A new website has been launched by The Center for Constitutional Rights to help citizens organize an impeachment strategy in their state. This is an excellent resource for those of us looking to take action.
The Center for Constitutional Rights, America’s leading institution of constitutional scholarship, has developed a legal case for the impeachment of George W Bush. Now, in collaboration with Melville House Books and progressives across the U.S., they are sponsoring a “National Teach-In” to share their case, what’s at stake, and what impeachment means for every American.
For those interested in hosting a teach-in, an “Action Kit” is available. The kit includes the documentary short HOW TO IMPEACH A PRESIDENT, featuring Center for Constitutional Rights attorneys. Also included are a discussion guide, action strategies, and copies of the Center for Constitutional Rights’ handbook ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT AGAINST GEORGE W. BUSH.

It is most embarrassing to ask for people to sign a statement that dropping a nuclear bomb on another nation that is not a direct threat to our country is a bad idea. But alas, here we are …
Reports that the Bush administration may be planning a nuclear attack against Iran are alarming. A strong statement of opposition from the American public before that idea becomes credible is important.
Please sign MoveOn’s petition and then alert your friends, family and colleagues by asking them to sign the petition. We must take extra effort to communicate to our representatives, even on issues that seem totally … well, NUTS!

Senator Tom Harkin has posted a petition where you can join him and Senator Barbara Boxer by showing your support for Senator Russ Feingold’s resolution to censure George W. Bush. This petition is an important way to add your voice before the Senate is back in session after the Easter recess.
Please review some of the evidence on this site (here and here) and do your own research, so that you can determine for yourself if the President has set in motion a pattern of law breaking and has, many times, shown disregard for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Censure and impeachment are our democracy’s only tools to fight executive tyranny. Don’t let this process continue to be politicized by both the Repubicans and the Democrats. This is not just about winning elections. This is not about political postering. This is not about a left wing and a right wing. This is about the Constitution of the United States and preserving our system of government for our children and their children. If this Congress will not exercise oversite of the White House, it is up to the people to exercise oversite of both branches. As Americans, we have the duty to put in action the tools we have been given. Call your Representatives. Support Censure and Impeachment. Vote in November.

Sibel Edmonds was hired as a translator by the FBI shortly after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 because of her knowledge of Middle Eastern languages. Even though she followed all appropriate procedures for reporting her concerns up the chain of command, Edmonds was retaliated against and fired.

FEBRUARY 21, 2006 - In these highly-charged political times, it is the word that dare not speak its name: impeachment. Democrats and other opponents of the President, as well as people in the media, are afraid to raise the topic for fear of being called too partisan or extreme. But the startling revelation of the President’s warrantless wiretapping campaign may be the straw that broke the camel’s back: In the halls of Congress and on the front pages of a growing number of mainstream periodicals, impeachment is being discussed more and more openly. And many leading constitutional scholars agree: there has never been so strong a case for impeachment since Richard Nixon.
